Meeting minutes: May 8, 2018

  • Attendance: 7 members
  • No quorum, but no quorum from last meeting either, so continuing with official meeting with present members.
  • Reading of the meeting minutes from March 13 and April 10. Vote to accept both passed unanimously.
  • New members:

    • Don Cameron: Planned to be member for one month. Already completed.
  • Exiting members:
    • Keeley Haftner: moved away as planned.

    • Don Cameron: Completed his single month as planned.

  • Outreach:
    • May 26: Saskatoon Mini Makerfaire. We would like more volunteers to help represent us at the tables.
    • May 29: 15 minute presentation: James Cooper's deck.
    • June 2: Open house 10AM-5PM. Need a few volunteers: James, John, Scott. Plan to give tool demos, introductions, tours, sign-ups. Snacks will be provided.
      • Tasha volun-told to make invite for open house.
    • First newsletter went out today. Looks great. Thanks Sheila!
      • Scott suggests adding a sign-up link to the website, Facebook.
      • Is there a way to link to it from outside? Sheila couldn't find it, but will look for it.
      • If you have a project you were working on or have other things you would like to contribute, send it to thespace@sktechworks.ca and Sheila will add it to the next one.
      • Sheila will ask Al and Kurtis for stuff from RoboGames.
    • Acknowledgements:
      • Peter made us some shelves.
      • John mounted the projector.
      • Scott added a “switch” to the lights above the projector screen.
      • Quentin and Scott for working on the brochure and invite.
      • Sheila for making the newsletter.
      • Continuity Resources Group for the color laser printer/scanner/copier.
    • Reminder: food waste has to be taken out to the dumpster; do not leave food waste in the indoor garbage cans.
    • We had a fire inspection this past month. Everything clear. They requested we clear out the pathway upstairs to ensure a safe escape. The board will follow up to make sure this is cleaned up.
    • There was a power outage recently. Our emergency lighting worked well.
    • New tools:
      • We decided it wasn't worth buying a used table saw. Looking for a new one.
      • James has some tools to lend. Belt sander, palm sander, drum sander, table saw.
    • New printer: free to use for a few pages, but please pay if printing substantial amounts.
    • Went through purgatory box.
    • Inspected fire extinguishers and first aid kit.
    • Next meeting: June 12, 7:00PM, at 412 44th Street, Saskatoon, SK.
